History and Mission
Ukrainian Gathering Baptist Church is a Northwest Baptist church plant that was started in August 2026 in Vancouver, WA.
Our church responds to an important spiritual and cultural need among hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians—the opportunity to worship God in their native language and to be part of their own church family. This is especially important for refugees of war who have been separated from their homeland and roots, scattered across different countries, and who often experience feelings of loneliness and being misunderstood.
The idea of establishing a new Ukrainian church emerged from Mykhailo Cherenkov after he completed his pastoral ministry at Revival Baptist Church in March 2026. During this difficult period of war in Ukraine, he sensed a special calling to serve the Ukrainian people, helping them preserve their faith, spiritual and cultural connections, and find a new church family far from their homeland.
This initiative was supported by Pastor Pavlo Demyanyk, who served for many years as pastor of the Ukrainian Baptist Church, as well as by other brothers, including representatives of a younger generation of ministry leaders. Gradually, a team was formed, united by a common vision for a Ukrainian church that would not only preserve its heritage but also open new opportunities for mission.
The church sees its mission as providing spiritual care for scattered Ukrainians, helping them find fellowship, support, and hope in Christ, while also preparing younger generations for active mission in the American context.
Ukrainian Gathering Church is developing as a NW Baptist church plant in close partnership with The Gathering Church and its pastor, Austin White. We adopted the name Ukrainian Gathering Church to emphasize this strategic connection, express our gratitude for the support we have received, and demonstrate our desire for continued cooperation in advancing the Gospel and participating together in God’s mission.
We believe that a Ukrainian church in America can be more than a place where language, culture, and traditions are preserved. It can be, above all, a place to encounter God, experience spiritual restoration, build intergenerational unity, and engage in active mission. Our goal is not simply to bring Ukrainians together, but to help them become rooted in Christ, find a new church family, and become a blessing to the society around them.
